QUOTES

women are the victims of war... as widows they've faced the trauma of being single parents and livelihoods of families are affected. A lot of gender-related problems come up in terms of health, education, domestic violence, etc.

War brutalises societies

Today among both men and women - in political parties, trade unions and other organizations - there is a new interest in the struggle for full equality between men and women. While it is true that the emancipation of women in Sri Lanka cannot be achieved under conditions of capitalism, based as it is on the exploitation of the working people , nevertheless, the awakening that is taking place among women about the nature of their exploitation, is a necessary condition of their participation in the general struggle of men and women for liberation.

Today women in many countries are taking part in various types of movements of protest, some of which are serious struggles for economic and social emancipation . One of the important tasks of the politically conscious women's movements has been the writing of the history of the struggles of women for economic and political rights.
