Gloria Steinem has been a leading voice for feminism and women's rights since she started her journalist career writing for New York magazine in the late 1960s and then co-founded Ms. Magazine, the first national women's magazine run by women in 1971. She has also written a number of best-selling books including Moving Beyond Words, Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions, and Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem. In addition to inspiring and empowering women by writing about the women's movement and other social issues, Gloria Steinem has also actively campaigned for progressive political candidates, lectured widely and has helped to create many advocacy and action organizations such as Choice USA, the Coalition of Labor Union Women, the National Women's Political Caucus, Women's Media Center and the Ms. Foundation for Women.
