Fear
is a natural and important response for survival.
But fear can also become a harmful emotion when
it causes us to act irrationally. When we allow
fear to control our lives, we see things differently,
we're more cautious and more timid, or we overreact
to situations in ways that can be harmful to
ourselves and others.
-- Robert Alan
Silverstein

In
many ways, the world is a dangerous place. But
if we chose not to let fear control our lives,
and instead stood up and worked together to
change the way things are, this would be a much
better world for everyone.
-- Robert Alan
Silverstein

The
moment we begin to fear the opinions of others
and hesitate to tell the truth that is in
us, and from motives of policy are silent
when we should speak, the divine floods of
light and life no longer flow into our souls
-- Elizabeth
Cady Stanton
Keep
your fears to yourself, but share your inspiration
with others.
-- Robert Louis Stevenson
Courage,
it would seem, is nothing less than the power to overcome
danger, misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing
to affirm inwardly that life with all its sorrows
is good; that everything is meaningful even if in
a sense beyond our understanding; and that there is
always tomorrow.
-- Dorothy Thompson
Fear
grows in darkness; if you think there's a bogeyman
around, turn on the light.
-- Dorothy Thompson
There
is nothing to fear except the persistent refusal to
find out the truth, the persistent refusal to analyze
the causes of happenings.
-- Dorothy Thompson
Only
when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live.

When
I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable.
I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times,
and to the latest.

'Refugees
are defined as persons who are outside their country
and cannot return owing to a well-founded fear of
persecution because of their race, religion, nationality,
political opinion or membership of a particular social
group.'

“Take
heart again; put your dismal fears away. One day,
who knows? Even these hardships will be grand things
to look back on.”
-- Virgil

"For
in the end, freedom is a personal and lonely
battle; and one faces down fears of today so
that those of tomorrow might be engaged.
~Alice Walker

I think we have to own the fears that we have
of each other, and then, in some practical way,
some daily way, figure out how to see people
differently than the way we were brought up
to.

Love
is what we are born with. Fear is what we learn.
The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear
and prejudices and the acceptance of love back
in our hearts. Love is the essential reality
and our purpose on earth. To be consciously
aware of it, to experience love in ourselves
and others, is the meaning of life. Meaning
does not lie in things. Meaning lies in us.
-- Marianne
Williamson

And
as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously
give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear, our presence
automatically liberates others. -- Marianne
Williamson

"Chinese
and Tibetan dissidents are either locked up
in prison, forced into hiding, or silenced by
fear of police retaliation against their families.
All the happiness about China's economic growth
has made many Americans forget that police clubs
and guns and the Laogai system keep the Communist
Party in power. Moreover, it is still little
recognized how American resources help to sustain
that power through trade, investments, and the
transfer of technology... It is only when the
Laogai is abolished in China that real change
will come about."
-- Harry Wu
Superstition
is born of ignorance and fear, and thrives the most
when reason is asleep.
-- Zarathushtra

The
strike, the boycott, the refusal to serve, the
ability to paralyze the functioning of a complex
social structure-these remain potent weapons
against the most fearsome state or corporate
power.
