Ralph Abernathy was a civil rights leader and close friend of Dr. Martin Luther King. He worked closely with Dr. King as the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Number Two figure, and was with Martin Luther King the day he was killed. After King's assassination, Ralph Abernathy led the SCLC in its continuing work for civil rights.
