As
commander in chief of the United States Strategic Air Command
in charge of much of America's nuclear arsenal, Decorated United
States Air Force General, Lee Butler, clearly saw the risks and
dangers that nuclear weapons posed in the post Cold War era. At
great risk to his career, he strongly advocated to reduce the
number of nuclear targets and weapons. After his retirement, he
became very active in the nuclear disarmament movement, calling
for the complete abolition of nuclear weapons. In 1999 he founded
the Second Chance Foundation in Omaha Nebraska, dedicated to responsibly
reducing the number of nuclear weapons around the world.
