Ted Turner is one of the greatest media moguls ever - he was named Time Magazine's Man of the Year in 1991 and at the close of the 20th century, Cable and Broadcasting named him Man of the Century. Most famous for creating CNN, the world's first live round-the-clock news station, as well as TBS and TNT, Ted Turner has also earned a reputation as one of the world's greatest philanthropists.

Turner's business successes have provided the resources for fueling his passion for environmental issues, peace and a nuclear free world through the creation of several major initiatives - the Goodwill Games, which he launched in 1985 to promote peace through sport; The Turner Foundation founded in 1991 has funded hundreds of environmental organizations; the United Nations Foundation and Better World Fund which were created after his unprecedented pledge of $1 billion to support and promote the work of the United Nations; and the Nuclear Threat Initiative, launched in 2001 to help prevent nuclear war. Ted Turner is also the largest private landholder in America, owning over 2 million acres that are managed in "an economically sustainable and ecologically sensitive manner while promoting the conservation of native species."

Ted Turner has done much to help evolve a more holistic and coordinated movement for a peaceful, just and sustainable world, and will continue to play a leading role for a better world in this new millennium.
