Alla Yaroshinskaya received the 1992 Right Livelihood Award "...for revealing, against official opposition and persecution, the extent of the damaging effects of the Chernobyl disaster on local people." She is the author or co-author of over 700 articles and a dozen books about the threats of nuclear power and weapons, including the comprehensive Nuclear Encyclopaedia. Alla Yaroshinskaya has also been active in human rights environmental and freedom of the press issues and in 1998 she received the international award as one of the "100 heroines of the 20th Century."
