Canadian
judge, Louise Arbour, gained international attention in 1996,
when the United Nations Security Council chose her to be the Chief
Prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunals for Rwanda
and the former Yugoslavia. Three years later she was appointed
to the Supreme Court of Canada. In 2004, Supreme Court Justice
Arbour was called by the United Nations to serve as the fifth
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Since 2009, she has worked
as President and CEO of the International Crisis Group, a non-governmental
organization that works with governments, international bodies
and civil society to prevent deadly conflicts around the world.
