QUOTES

"In my life now, I am obsessed with only two things: I don't want anybody to die before their time,. And I don't want to see good people spend hteir energies without making a difference ... You can change the reality of human history by systemic action."

Our mission in this new century is clear. For good or ill, we live in an interdependent world. We can't escape each other. Therefore, we have to spend our lives building a global community of shared responsibilities, shared values, shared benefits.

There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America.

If you live long enough, you'll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you'll be a better person. It's how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.

By lifting the weakest, poorest among us, we lift the rest of us as well.

Everybody counts, everybody deserves a chance, everybody has a responsible role to play and we all do better when we work together.

I like that about the Republicans; the evidence does not faze them, they are not bothered at all by the facts.

In our hearts and in our laws, we must treat all our people with fairness and dignity, regardless of their race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. . . .

Global poverty is a powder keg that could be ignited by our indifference.

A world without walls is the only sustainable world. . . . If the world is dominated by people who believe that their races, their religions, their ethnic differences are the most important factors, then a huge number of people will perish in this century.

Peace is not a spectator sport…The enemies of peace don't need your approval. All they need is your apathy.

Volunteering is an act of heroism on a grand scale. And it matters profoundly. It does more than help people beat the odds; it changes the odds.

Let's create an integrated global community where we have shared benefits and responsibilities, and we don't fight because of our differences.

"I have never believed we had to choose between either a clean and safe environment or a growing economy. Protecting the health and safety of all Americans doesn’t have to come at the expense of our economy’s bottom line. And creating thriving companies and new jobs doesn’t have to come at the expense of the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, or the natural landscape in which we live. We can, and indeed must, have both."
